Abstract

Maintenance of dental and oral health in children with mental retardation is usually still relatively lacking, one of which is in children with mental retardation. Mentally restarded children need to be given more efforts to maintain their oral health in order to keep their oral hygiene healthy. The research: objective to examine the effect of  counseling using audio visuals on the ability to brush teeth of mentally retarded children in cineam SLBN Tasikmalaya district. Research method: using a quasi-experimental research design with one group pre- test and post-test designs. Sampling by Saturated sampling technique, a sampling technique if all of the population are used as a sample. Total sample as many as 30 people. The research measuring instrument used a questionnaire and observations sheet. Data analysis used the wilcoxon test. Research result: post the study after being given counseling using music rhythmic motion audio, it was found that the average ability to brush the teeth of mentally retarded children increased from 3.60 to 2.85. wilcoxon test results obtained p-value= 0,000 (<0,05). The conclusion: is that there is an effect of counseling using audio visual music rhytmic movements on the ability to brush the teeth of mentally retarded children at SLBN Cineam, Tasikmalaya Regency.
